
Sylvia Kravitz, age 85, of Birmingham, died Dec. 28, 2012. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Rabbi Steven Jacobs officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Morton Kravitz; her parents, David and Bessie Stein; and her brothers, Phillip Stein, Abe Stein, and Manny Stein.
Survivors include her daughters, Sheryl Smookler of London, England, Rochelle Green of Birmingham, Barbara Wasserman of Pittsfield, Mass., and Rita Denson of Atlanta, Ga.; her son, Paul Kravitz of Dawsonville, Ga.; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Rhoda Feirman of Birmingham; her grandchildren, Deborah Jones, Jennifer Smookler Sanders, Bradley Reznik, Stacy Wasserman, Rachel Wasserman, Jared Denson, and Brandon Denson; and her great-grandchildren, Hannah and Melissa Reznik, Nina Jones, and Amy Sanders.
Sylvia Kravitz was born on January 17, 1927, in New York City, daughter of the late David and Bessie Stein. She married her late husband Morton on March 14, 1948, in Miami, Fla., and settled in Tuscaloosa. Sylvia and Morton owned Sylvia's Stout Shop in downtown Tuscaloosa for 40 years. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling the world together. Sylvia was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Tuscaloosa, where she was treasurer, and Temple Beth-El in Birmingham. She was a life member of Hadassah and she enjoyed many years as a volunteer at Druid City Hospital and Trinity Hospital.
