William George ""Bill"" Caffee, Jr. passed away peacefully on August 2, 2017 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at the age of 90. Bill was born on May 2, 1927 to Willie G. ""Big Bill"" Caffee and Dean Lane Caffee in Vance, Alabama. After graduating from Brookwood High School, Bill served his country during World War II in the United States Navy as an Electrician Mate, 3rd Class, from May, 1945 - July, 1946 on the Carrier USS Montrail APA 213. As a Sigma Nu Fraternity member, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business at The University of Alabama in 1950. Bill was preceded in death, by his first wife, Lillia Elizabeth ""Bette or Liz"" Greene, whom he married on March 18, 1949 in Tallahassee, Florida. Liz and Bill raised three children, Susan, Carol and Diane. As a growing family, Bill's career led them to several communities including Taccoa and Cornelia, Ga., Birmingham, Ala., Decatur, Ga., Nashville, Tenn. and Tuscaloosa, Ala. Bill worked as chemical salesman and retired from his career as Executive Sales Representative for Exxon Chemical Corporation in 1992.
Returning to his home town of Vance, Alabama, in 1970, Bill fulfilled his boyhood dream of being a farmer, and his later years were spent enjoying his beloved family farm: raising cattle, hunting, fishing and developing the land for future generations. Bill also played a role in the early incorporation of Vance, Alabama, serving as Town Council Member and Building Inspector. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Ethel Purcell Morris-Caffee, whom he married on June 25, 2011. He moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and enjoyed his later years as a member of Forest Lake United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his grandson, William Jason Broughton. Bill is also survived by his three daughters, Susan Caffee, Carol Caffee and Diane Caffee. Bill also has four grandchildren, James Owen Broughton, II, Jeremy Lynn Pruett, Deanna Elizabeth Scott and Galen Alexander Howlett. His great- grandchildren are Kathryn Raley Hayes, Madison Rebecca Pruett, Houstyn Bailey Pruett, Tristan Brent Hamilton, Jacob Landon Pruett and David Curtis Hayes. Visitation will be held on Friday night, August 4, 2017, from 5 – 7 p.m., at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Blvd. E., Tuscaloosa, Ala. and on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Forest Lake United Methodist Church, 1711 4th Ave., Tuscaloosa Alabama. Bill will be lying in state for viewing at 2:00 p.m. and the memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. Fellowship and refreshments will be served at Forest Lake United Methodist Church following the laying to rest at Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Active Pallbearers will be Jeremy Lynn Pruett, Adam Rex Scott, Jack Quinton Waldrop, Jr., David Ray Dailey, Michael W. Webb and Richard C Smith. Honorary pallbearers are James Owen Broughton II and Galen Alexander Howlett.
