She was born November 15, 1936 in Hollister, Idaho to Marko Pete and Ethel Corak, Janice was the youngest of ten children and attended Hollister grade school, graduating from Filer High in 1954.
Although not enlisted in the military, Janice was quite a dancer and so loved dancing with the officers at the NCO club where she waitressed. These were the first in a long line of Janice’s admirers.
In 1954, Janice married Ernest Ashford and from this union was blessed with three children – Rhonda, Pete, and Allison. Ernie and Janice did a bit of globe-trotting, living in such varied places as Idaho, Michican, Kansas, Virginia, and finally a grand adventure in Maracaibo Venezuela, where Janice took painting lessons, honed her Spanish, and enjoyed the finer things in life.
Janice’s second marriage to Delbert Whitney yielded “her caboose”, Camille, who was raised in Hollister, Idaho. It was then that Janice found her love for her mini farm with her chickens, turkeys, sheep, cats, dogs, raspberry and blackberry bushes, and an orphaned wild mustang found in the high desert which she bottle fed by hand with a mixture of ground oats and evaporated milk.
In 1991, after the children had left, Janice moved to Twin Falls and began her big city adventure. From her condo, she took organ lessons, shopped ‘til she dropped, went to concerts, was a woman about town going everwhere on her electric scooter, and finally met, fell in love with, and married her trumpet playing jazz man, Bruce Anderson.
Janice was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and maintained a strong faith throughout a life of adversity.
Janice was a remarkable woman. She will be remembered for her love of family, music, dancing, thirst for knowledge, courage, strength, and above all her radiant smile, which she kept until the very end.
Janice is survived by her brother Jim Corak (Betty), sister Alice Knight, her four children - Rhonda Noh (Bill Bryant) of Hollister, Pete Ashford (Dana) of Atlanta, Georgia, Allison Kerr of Caldwell, and Camille Barigar (Shawn) of Twin Falls, eight grandchildren, and one great grandson. Never were children so loved by their mother and grandmother.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24 at White Morturary “Chapel by the Park”. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
