Jacqueline A. “Mama Jackie” Roy, 87, of Arp, went home to be with the Lord on, Monday, September 7, 2015. She was born in 1928 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. When Jackie was 2 years old, her family moved to Kilgore, TX; an oil boom town. They later moved to Jonerville, where she attended school. In 1941 she moved to Tyler with her mother, after the death of her young brother, Sonny. She graduated from Tyler Business College in 1948.
Throughout her journey in life, her professional life consisted of 28 years as a secretary and the next 28 years as the owner of the Traveler’s Motel in Jasper, TX.
She had a kind heart and was always willing to give a helping hand. Her heart of gold allowed many people in need to live in her motel for free. Soon the overhead outweighed the income and she was forced to sell the motel to cover taxes and utilities.
She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2004 and moved to Tyler to be near her family. In May 2008, she moved to Arlington to be near her daughter and son-in-law and resided at Eden Terrace, Autumn Leaves and Town Hall. Later, the family moved back to Tyler and she spent her final days in Oak Brook Nursing Home in Whitehouse. The family always thought that the Alzheimer’s would take her life, but it was cancer that took its’ toll.
The family wishes to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care and the staff at Oak Brook for making it her home. She was so happy and loved her friends and caregivers.
