

Jessie “Jean” Scarborough was born November 10, 1929 in Glasgow, Kentucky to Dewey and Lucy Ellen McClellan. She passed away March 2, 2015 in Mineola, Texas. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Buster Scarborough; son, Barry Scarborough; sister, Shirley Houston; and great-grandson Titus Mereness.
She is survived by her brother, John McClellan and wife Marian; daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Robbie Wade; daughter-in-law, Mary Scarborough; grandchildren, Brynn and husband Kent Mereness, Saralyn and husband John Portwood, Callie Wade, Katelyn and husband Adam Chirhart, Sara Scarborough, and Amye Scarborough; five great-grandchildren, Jackson and Cooper Portwood, and Lucy, Jude and Molly Mereness.
Jean was a graduate of Carlisle High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College. She was a survivor of the 1937 New London School explosion, as she left school early that day due to illness.
In addition to being a loving mother and grandmother, she was a band director in the public school system and found great success selling real estate in the Tyler area. She was a member of Alba Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held at Tyler Memorial Funeral Home, 12053 State Highway 64 West in Tyler. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 7, 2015, with funeral services immediately following at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow inTyler Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers are David Calvert, Sam Fazel, David Wade, Mike Wade, Steve Wade, and Robbie Wade. The funeral service will be conducted by Jean’s grandson-in-law, Kent Mereness.
Honorary pallbearers are Tom Wade, Tim Harris, Herb Sims, and Tom Woldert.
The family greatly appreciates the love and concern expressed by Wood Memorial Nursing Home for eight and a half years, and the services of Hospice of East Texas.
