Funeral Services for Jimmy Wayne Seaton age 65 of Tyler will be 1:30PM Monday at Green Acres Baptist Church with Burial in Tyler Memorial Park.
After a valiant fight with cancer, Jimmy Wayne Seaton quietly passed from this life on April 3, 2014. Jimmy Wayne Seaton was born in Marshall, Texas, on October 6, 1948, to James William and Artie Frances Martin Seaton. Jim honorably served his country from 1969 to 1973 as a member of the United States Marines. He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. After returning to Tyler from his service to our Country, Jim went to work for the OGE Oldsmobile Toyota Dealership in Tyler and joined the Dixie Volunteer Fire Department. Jim donated his time as a Volunteer at Dixie VFD for over 35 years, serving as the Training Officer and Fire Chief.
In 1987, Jim became the Smith County Assistant Fire Marshal and Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator. In 1999, after the passing of longtime Fire Marshal Charles Shine, Jim was appointed Fire Marshal and served his County, Community and State in that position faithfully. Jim earned and held certifications as a Volunteer Fire Fighter, Arson Investigator, Fire Inspector and Master Peace Officer. He believed that training and education was an important factor in the many aspects of his career and dedicated himself to helping others learn what he loved. Jim also served as a member of a multitude of Committees and Boards and felt a strong commitment to helping improve the lives of others. Jim was a dedicated Emergency Management Coordinator and took the planning for disasters and emergencies to a stellar level. He served the State of Texas as a member of the Texas Division of Emergency Management Advisory Group and mentored others new to Emergency Planning. Jim was always a teacher and an educator at heart.
Jim is survived by his wife, Nancy Scroggins Seaton of Tyler, his faithful and four legged daughter, Zoe; daughter Melissa Gail Seaton, son James T. Seaton & Lisa Seaton and Son-in-Law Randy W. Oden; grandchildren Jayna Lynn Kennedy, Preston Wayne Seaton-Knox, Bailey O’Neal Dushuanack, Haley Elizabeth Oden, Ashlyn Nicole Seaton and Emma Frances Seaton; Greatgrandchildren Ansley & Emma Kennedy; niece Jackie Butcher Cuppy, her children Misty and David and nephew Billy Butcher. He is also survived by in-laws, Karen & Steve LaCroix of Plano, David Scroggins of Flint, Trey and Mistie Scroggins of Rockwall; nephews Billy & Deann Scroggins of Forney, Blake & Meghan Thedford of Seattle, WA., and Matt LaCroix of Hurst; nieces Kristen & Stanton Reaves of Canton, Shey Scroggins of Rockwall, Lauren Thedford of Dallas and Susan LaCroix of Fairhope, AL.
Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Sunney Rachelle Seaton Oden; parents James William & Artie Frances Martin Seaton; sister, Jean Butcher Enix and in-laws Bill & Louise Scroggins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honor of Jim, to the Smith County Fire Fighter’s Association, 11325 Spur 248, Tyler, Texas.
Visitation will be 4-7PM Sunday at Lloyd-James Funeral Home.
