Mickey graduated from Brewer High School in White Settlement, Texas. He started his work career at Safeway in high school, then went to work at General Motors where he retired after 32 years. Mickey’s favorite hobbies were playing golf with his buddies, going to the horse races, woodworking, traveling and gardening. We always said he had a green hand and not just a green thumb! He married Venita on Thursday, June 1, 1995 and had many adventures in their RV visiting every state but New Jersey, Delaware and Hawaii. Mickey was a fine Christian man who saw the good in everyone. He never met a stranger and his smile and laughter were infectious! He had a great sense of humor and always had a twinkle in his eye. One of our favorite sayings of Mickey’s was “The apple don’t fall far from the tree!” He was a wonderful husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and Papa.
Mickey is survived by his wife Venita; son Bret and wife Dena; stepdaughters Lori Platt, Robyn Delozier and husband Jeff; grandchildren Michael, Marissa, Hailee, Kylee, Brittani, Nick, Ashli and Amber; great grandchildren Hailey, Braxton and Whitlee; sisters Wanda Bradfield, Dorothy Wise, Peggy Wachtel, Kathy Marlow and brother Sam Holbrook; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear and loved friends.
Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Virginia “Sissy” Brewer and brother Jimmy Holbrook.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital as this was Mickey’s favorite charity.
