

Joan P. Zujus, 77, of Uncasville, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died Friday May 15, 2015 in the presence of her loving family at Connecticut Hospice, Branford after a brief illness. She was born in Jersey City, NJ daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth (Price) Oyer. She married her husband, Raymond Zujus, in October 1956. Joan was a Navy wife for 30 years and her greatest accomplishment was raising her five children while her husband was on active duty. She was a loving mother and dedicated to providing the example of love, kindness and generosity that her children have taken and are passing along to the future generations that will follow her. Once her children were grown and her husband retired she started her second career as the Tax Collector for the Town of Montville, a position she held and loved for 35 years. During that time her kind, gentle nature and true love for people touched all those who worked with her and many of the residents of Montville as well. She will be remembered for her passionate approach to her job and the people who’s lives she touched.
In addition to her husband she is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters; Raymond M. and his wife Lynda of Lake Mary, Florida, Patricia and her husband Chuck Bagley of Johnston, Rhode Island, Debra Peeler and her fiancé Mike Harward of Florida, Paul of Uncasville, and Greg and his wife Stacy of Mystic. She also leaves 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, 3 brothers and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday May 20, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at the Montville Funeral Home Route 32, Uncasville. Funeral Service and burial will be private.
Joan has supported St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for many years and was committed to the hope they provide and the work they do.
