Andrew L. Tobia

Andrew L. “Leggs” Tobia, 90, of Ship Bottom, NJ (formerly of East Orange and Union, NJ) passed away on August 22, 2013. Visitation will be Monday, August 26, 2013 from 7 to 9 pm and Tuesday, August 27, 2013 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:15 am on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at St. Michael’s Church, 1212 Kelly Street, Union, NJ, followed by the burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ.

Andrew was one of three brothers who owned Tobia Brothers Bakery in West Orange, NJ. He served in the Army during World Word II. He was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4504 and one of the original members of the Columbian Swim Club in Union, NJ. He was also a member of the Italian American Social & Civic Club of Stafford, NJ, the East Orange Social and Civic Club, the East Orange Golf Club, and The Tam O’Shanter Golf Club in Pompano Beach, FL. He enjoyed many years golfing and was a true snowbird, spending many winters in Florida with family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Gilda (nee Vellanti) for 64 years. He was the father of Michael A. Tobia and partner Christine Boris; Adrienne G. Stefanyak and husband Michael; and Ann Marie Milanesi and husband Joseph. He was also the grandfather of Carrie Davis and husband Joseph, Michael C. Stefanyak, Jr., Alexander A. Stefanyak, Michelle Tobia and Andrew A. Tobia; and the great-grandfather of Nicholas J. and Olivia G. Davis. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Marie Tobia (nee Arace), his brothers, Patrick and Joseph Tobia, and his sisters Ann Gasparine and Louise Demere. He is also survived by extended family members, including Louise Cerami, Dominick and Hilda Vellanti, Joanne Tobia, many nieces, nephews, dear friends, and a sister Jean.
