Born November 29, 1918 in Newark, NJ. Moved to Morristown, NJ where he spent his childhood before moving back to Newark, NJ. He was a graduate of West Side High School after which he was employed at Drake's Bakery in Irvington, NJ. Leo was drafted into the ninth Air Force where he was a B-17 Mechanic until transferring to the Air Force Intelligence. He left the Air Force to join the Counter Intelligence Corps with the Fifth Army in Italy under Gen. Mark Clark. He was promised a commission if he remained in the Army but after almost four and a half years he chose to leave the service and was discharged as a technical sergeant. Leo was a member of the American Legion in Union, NJ. Worked for many years at General Electric Co. in Newark, NJ, during which time he attended night classes at Seton Hall University where he earned a Master’s Degree in English under the G.I. bill. He left a supervisory position at G.E. to teach French at Oratory Prep in Summit, NJ. Transferred to Archbishop Walsh High School in Irvington, NJ to teach English, French, Religion and Performing Arts retiring after 15 years. He moved to Union N.J. in 1976 after living in Irvington, NJ. He was a former Parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church in Newark, NJ where he was a lector in the parish. Transferred to Holy Spirit Church in Union, NJ where he was a Eucharistic Minister, a Lector and was a member of the 60+ club.
Leo was predeceased by his brother Stanley, John, and Peter, a nephew Paul Wroblewski, and almost all of his uncles and aunts.
He is survived by is sister Mary Wroblewski, nephew Thomas Wroblewski, niece Bernadette Hoyer, great niece Christine Hoyer, a great nep[hew Eric Hoyer and wife Merrie, a great great nephew Zachary Hoyer a great great niece Ruby Hoyer, as well as many wonderful friends, neighbors and students.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave, Union, NJ on Sunday November 10, 2019 from 2-6PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday November 11, 2019 at Holy Spirit Church, Union, NJ at 10:30am followed by interment in the Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
