

Mary E. Ulrich, 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2013 in Summit, NJ surrounded by her three daughters, sister, and niece. Born in NY, NY, Mary resided in Union since 1955. After raising her family, Mary turned to her passion for education and served as a teacher at Battlehill Elementary School for 15 years. Mary was a graduate of Hunter College High School, Hunter College, and later received a master’s degree from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Mary was a dedicated member of Townley Presbyterian Church in Union, and an integral part of the Church community. She served in many capacities throughout her 57-year membership, including that of a devoted Sunday school teacher.
She was known affectionately to many as “Mother Mary” because of her caring gentle spirit, positive outlook on life, and the warm and endearing nature she expressed to all along the way.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Fred, her brother George, her grandson Stephen, and her nephew Bill. She is survived by her three loving daughters Janet Thompson and her husband Rod, Beth Salerno and her husband Paul, and Lau Qaissaunee and her husband Mike. She also leaves behind her adoring grandchildren Scott, Kathryn, David and Haley, as well as her sister Catherine Van Wyngaarden and niece Jane Ruffle.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 4pm until 8pm at the McCracken Funeral Home 1500 Morris Ave Union. Funeral service will be held at Townley Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 10am with entombment to follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.
