Lawrence “Larry” James Parker, M.D. died at his home in Fallbrook, CA on June 17, 2012 after a long illness. He was 94 years old.
Born March 10, 1918 in Poultney, VT to Melissa Amanda Baker and William A Parker, Larry did his pre med at Green Mountain College, Poultney, VT and Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA, and earned his medical degree at the University of Vermont Medical School, Burlington, VT. His residency was at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. He served in U. S. Air Corp medical units during both World War II and the Korea War. He afterwards practiced Family Medicine in Ontario and Upland, CA from 1952 to 1990. Working at San Antonio Community Hospital, he served on the Hospital Board, Medical Staff Board, and the Foundation Board in addition to time spent serving as Medical Staff President and on various other committees. Larry was a member of the Morning Star Lodge No. 37 F&AM of Poultney, VT for 71 years and a Kiwanian for many years as well. Board Certified in Family Practice, Dr. Parker was a true family practitioner: on his last day on the job, Larry saw a family of his patients spanning four generations. He enjoyed his practice and those he took care of through the years, and in turn, he was well loved by patients, family, and friends. He enjoyed playing golf for many years, loved reading and studying, and he will always be remembered for his exceptional kindness and happy disposition.
Larry leaves behind his wife Gloria Loucille Parker; children Glen (Linda) Parker of Glendora, CA and Laura (Joe) Muñoz of Aloha, OR; daughter-in-law Cynthia Parker of La Cañada Flintridge, CA; grandchildren Eric Parker (and his partner Barbara Foy), Ian Parker, Leslie Parker, Aron (Sarah) Parker, Alan Parker, Ryan (Kristen) Muñoz, Marcus (Jennifer) Muñoz, and Damian Muñoz (and his fiancée Valerie Haeussler); stepsons Larry (Brenda) Brown of Vacaville, CA and Allan (Marla) Brown of Foothill Ranch, CA; step grandchildren Christopher, Daniel (Michelle), Ashley, and Taylor Brown; and a number of great grandchildren. Larry was preceded in death by his son Gary Parker, first wife Jean Parker, brother Frederick Parker, and sisters Irene Daly, Leora Clark and Marion Munson.
Larry was a member of the United Methodist Church, 1844 Winterhaven Rd., Fallbrook, CA, where a Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 6, 2012 . Reception to follow. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Upland, CA on July 2, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. His final resting place will be at Bellevue Cemetery, 1240 West G Street, Ontario, CA, where a Graveside Service will be held July 2, 2012. Donations or contributions in his name may be made to Fallbrook Methodist Church, Salavation Army, or San Antonio Community Hospital Foundation, Upland, CA.
