March 19, 1968 – February 23, 2026
Melanie Ann Russell, born Melanie Ann Maksin, passed away on February 23, 2026, at the age of 57. Born on March 19, 1968, in Pennsylvania, Melanie moved to California as a teenager with her parents, Nancy and Ken, and her brothers, Ken, Bruce, and Keith. It was in California that she would build the life and legacy that so many cherish today.
Melanie spent many of her formative years in Upland, California and attended Montclair High School. An exceptional softball player, she not only made her mark on the field but formed lifelong friendships that she treasured deeply and maintained throughout her life.
She went on to marry Eric and raise three beloved children — Savannah, Dawson, and Keith. She loved her children unconditionally and was proud of the people they have become.
Melanie lived with passion and purpose. She believed in enjoying life fully and not stressing the small things. She was strong, resilient, and truly a warrior — courageously fighting breast cancer for more than 20 years. Her strength carried her through unimaginable challenges, including surviving the Route 91 tragedy. Even in the midst of such darkness, Melanie found love again, meeting Allen, with whom she shared deep joy and companionship. Together they created beautiful memories, spending cherished time with friends in Newport and Cabo.
Melanie had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, who held a special place in her heart and brought her comfort, joy, and unconditional love. She recently fell in love with her yorkie, Scarlette, who quickly became a cherished companion and a bright light in her days. Proud of her Pennsylvania roots, she was also a devoted fan of Steelers football and loved cheering on her team each season.
Friendship was one of Melanie’s greatest gifts. She had an extraordinary ability to connect with people from every chapter of her life, and she held her friends close to her heart. In her final days, the outpouring of love and support from the many friends she had gathered along her journey was a true testament to the impact she had on so many lives.
Melanie will be remembered for her strength, her vibrant spirit, her love of life, and her devotion to her family and friends. She will be profoundly missed but forever carried in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
