DuBois Pettit, 82, of Fort Smith, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2021. He was born March 18, 1939 in Medina, NY to the late George and Nettie (DuBois) Pettit. DuBois was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served for 5 years. During this time, DuBois received the call to ministry and resumed his education to graduate from Arkansas State University where he met and married the love of his life, Violetta Pyland, in 1966. He then went on to complete his Masters in Divinity from St Paul’s School of Theology in 1969. After a lifetime of dedicated service as a Methodist Minister, serving over 22 churches in Arkansas, DuBois retired in 2001 and became a member of Heritage United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, gardening, photography, was an avid history buff, and enjoyed having pets.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Violetta Pettit of the home; two daughters, Tammy Prince and husband Eddie and Annie Lowrimore and husband Walter, all of Alma; a son, Frederick Pettit of Bentonville; a brother, Mike Pettit of Pittsburg, PA; five grandchildren, Emily Engelke and husband Nate, Wesley Prince, Phoebe Lowrimore, Samuel Lowrimore, and Holly Lowrimore; a great-grandson, Noah Engelke; and a niece and nephew.
Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
The family will visit with friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time Tuesday, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
