Harold Douglas White, 87, of Van Buren, breathed his last breath Monday, July 2, 2018 at his home. He was born May 23, 1931 in Prescott, AR to the late Herman and Ruthie White. Harold received a BA degree from Ouachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, and served as an Army Chaplain from 1959 to 1972. He then farmed for 10 years and worked as DVOP (Department of Veterans Outreach Program) with the Arkansas Employment Agency for 10 years, and then as a volunteer auxiliary chaplain at the then Summit Medical Center in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Thelma White of the home; three children, Joy Lovelady and husband Chris of Van Buren, Janice Brooks and husband Mike of Eldorado, AR, and Joe White and wife Karen of Kibler; seven grandchildren, John Allison, Ashley Fisher and husband Adam, James Allison and wife Taylor, Heather Shearhart and husband Matthew, Justin Allison and wife Andrea, Courtney Leming and husband Dakota, and Joe D. White and Macayla Jones; four step-grandchildren, Crystal Elliott and husband Alvin, Charley Lovelady, and Savannah and Remington Brooks; nine great-grandchildren, Annabelle Fisher, Dylan Shearhart, Adelyn Fisher, Evan Shearhart, Abraham Fisher, Dorothy Allison, Ainsley Fisher, Riley Leming, and Isaac Shearhart; and three step-great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Caleb, and Abigail Elliott.
Funeral service will be 11:30 Friday, July 6, 2018 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Pallbearers will be Mark Arnold, David Crabtree, Clifton Gunn, Robert Gregory, Ralph Smith, and Ricky Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be Stevie Arnold, Norman Marion, Otis Arnold, Jimmy W. Gooch, Leo McKee, Henry Crabtree, Willie Crabtree, and Clarence Becker.
The family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
