John Walter Bivens, Jr., 74, of Van Buren, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021 in Fort Smith. He was born January 10, 1947 in Fort Smith. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force, and was retired from Marrlin Transit. He was a school bus driver for the Van Buren School District, and a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Michael Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherri Thuesen; a sister, Betty Kling; and his parents, John and Maretta (Brown) Bivens, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy Bivens of the home; a daughter, Mary Brandenburg of Fort Smith; a son, John Bivens, III of Van Buren; a stepdaughter, Tracie Harris of Van Buren; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 6, 2021 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Van Buren with interment to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 5, 2021 with the family visiting with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
