Virgil Marie Sweet was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on March 28, 1917. After graduating high school, she held various secretarial positions, including one at the Allegheny County Department of Public Works. It was there that she met the love of her life, Tony Sweet, whom she married in 1942. After World War II, they moved with their three children to Southern California and settled in Sherman Oaks where their family continued to grow. In all Virgil and Tony raised eleven children.
Once all had reached adulthood, Virgil, a devout Catholic, taught religious education to children at St. Francis de Sales parish for 22 years, preparing them for their First Holy Communion. When her beloved Tony died in 1995 after more than 52 years of marriage, Virgil continued to enjoy her children, her 18 grandchildren and her four great grandchildren. She remained the loving matriarch and focal point of family gatherings.
Virgil died peacefully, surrounded by family members, on April 19, 2016, in the same house they bought in 1946. She was 99 years old.
