Antonio Papa was born on November 9th, 1943 in Santa Paolina, Avellino, Italy and died at home on February 2nd, 2023, in Burnaby, British Columbia. Antonio (Tony) immigrated to Canada in August of 1962 with his parents Vincenzo and Mariuccia and brother Evaristo. They left Brussels where Tony and his older brother Angelo studied tailoring. They left Belgium to join the rest of the family (Carmelo, Lauretta, Angelo and Eufemia who had come to Canada a few years prior.) Tony did not enjoy the trade of tailoring and his social nature led him to work in the furniture industry for decades with Hankin, Westco, Westrend, Atlantic and for more than 25 years with Stylus Furniture. Tony enjoyed spending time with friends and family particularly when having a nice meal. Tony was always a proud Italian and remained a citizen of Italy till 2006 when he became a Canadian citizen. Tony spoke Italian and French fluently and took great pleasure in conversing in the latter, English became his third language which he learned with the help of his spouse. Daphne and Tony met in 1963 and were married in January 1969 (54 years). Tony is survived by his wife Daphne and his son David, as well as his Nephew Enzo, and his children Steven and Micky, his niece/nephew Marisa and Vincent Piccolo their children Issac and Rebekah, Sister-in-law Rosetta Papa, niece/nephew Micheal and Leah, and his niece Kim Aufiero. Tony was laid to rest at the Mountain View Cemetery in a private ceremony. Donations can be made in Tony’s name to Diabetes Canada or the Canadian Heart and Stroke foundation in lieu of flowers.
