Tom MacEachern passed away quietly in Vancouver just a week shy of his 90th birthday.
Tom is predeceased by his wife Joanne MacEachern, parents Alec and Jane, brothers Linus, Everett, Alan, Alec, sisters Madeline, Betty and Mabel and nieces Cathe and Alana.
Tom leaves behind his children Jo Jo (Athena), Kevin, Matt (Chris), grandkids Josh (Sofi) and Kennedy (River), nieces Sandra and Darlene, and Luke (Gema) and Kia (Lenny).
Tom was born in the coal mining town of Dominion, in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. If coaxed he’d tell stories of farming by plow horse, harvesting stockpiles of spuds, skating on offshore ice flows, or riding coal trains to school in Glace Bay.
At age 24, he left Cape Breton to head out west to BC where he became a true ‘jack of all trades’; from BC Rail clerk, to schoolteacher, to mechanic and bulldozer operator. His spirit bloomed in the wilds of BC, and loved fishing, hunting and being outdoors.
In 1967 he married the love of his life, Joanne Shea MacEachern, and moved his new family to Vancouver. When Kevin was born, Tom’s love for life and devotion to family took on a whole new level; and for years he worked 2 jobs to provide for all. He loved taking Kennedy and Josh to new parks, doting on Luke and Kia, or being a grandpa to Kristen, Kevin, and Connel.
Their door was always open and many family and friends came to visit Tom and Joanne over the years.
When Joanne died in 2017 a part of Tom died too. There are so many people to thank for the love they showed Tom during his own time of loss; Mark and Maureen with a meal, Sandra and Stavros, Kia and Luke coming to visit, phone calls from Aunt Viv, uncle Mike, time with Linda and Jerry, or Doris and Kathy from St. Anthony’s. We thank you all for your love and support.
In respect of rising COVID cases, a private family graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery on Friday August 6th, 2021.
