With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bernice Holden on December 13, 2023. Born Bernice Sherlin Wong in Vancouver on August 21, 1964, to Peter and Beth Wong, she was universally known as an incredibly warm, thoughtful, and cheerful wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, co-worker, and friend. She will be profoundly missed by all.
A lover of travel and adventure, Bernice moved to Hong Kong in 1989 where she met and married her soul mate, Paul Holden. They were the couple in any party that everyone gravitated toward for their good humour and easy company. Together they had two wonderful children, James and Abby, who were a source of pride and great happiness to Bernice.
Bernice loved nothing more than spending time with her family, especially on weekends. She was an excellent and gracious host to friends and neighbors throughout the years and cooked up countless special meals for family and friends. She was an avid reader, gardener, knitter, needle pointer, and budding watercolour painter. Bernice touched many lives with her rare and exceptional combination of virtues: she was friendly, outgoing, helpful, supportive, and kind, at all times and in all places.
Bernice is survived by her husband, Paul; children, James and Abby; parents, Peter and Beth; mother-in-law, Joan Holden; sisters Sylvia (Chris) Wong Patey and Sheila (Brent Hannon) Wong; and brother-in-law, Ray (Jayne) Holden. She was a beloved aunt to Alex and Garrett Patey, Zoe and Phoebe Hannon, Mia and Aimee Holden, and Lauren Fox. She also had a great number of aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss her.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, we suggest a donation in Bernice's name and memory be made to the B.C. Cancer Foundation.
