Born November 12, 1983, Burnaby, BC
Passed away March 2, 2025, Richmond, BC
With heavy hearts, we mourn the tragic loss of Darcy Hawksworth, a life taken too soon.
Darcy is predeceased by his mother, Sandra Johnson Yee. He is survived by his grandmothers, Paula Kircher and Donna Aitken; father, Wade Hawksworth (Nat); sister, Tracy Wood (niece Allyson); brother, Shane Hawksworth (Victoria, nephew Maverick); twin brother, Derek Hawksworth (Sheri, niece Taite); brother, Epeli Yee; brother, Robin Yee; and brother, Denny Yee (niece Reece). He will be missed by many relatives – aunts, uncles, cousins, and, of course, all the friends he made along the way.
Darcy grew up in Richmond and attended W.D. Ferris Elementary, Errington Elementary, and London Secondary. While at London, he officially became known as DocHawk, as his many custom sports jerseys proudly displayed.
After high school, Darcy attended Kwantlen College for a carpentry apprenticeship. He continued his career working various jobs in construction and landscaping.
Darcy enjoyed sports and played basketball, hockey, soccer, and ultimate while growing up. He spent much of his spare time watching professional soccer and his beloved Tom Brady of the 6-time Super Bowl Champions New England Patriots.
Darcy, affectionately known as Captain America, had a lifelong passion for cinema, science fiction, and fantasy. He was an avid collector and reader of comics, with a particular fondness for characters ranging from Godzilla to those in the Marvel Universe, including The Hulk and Grogu (Baby Yoda). Darcy looked forward to cosplaying his favourite characters and attending Fan Expo with family and friends. We will miss watching his favorite shows, like The Trailer Park Boys and any type of Christmas movie, together. Darcy found comfort in expressing his creativity through drawing and sketching, and his art was a true reflection of his vibrant imagination.
When he wasn’t watching sports, reading comics, or creating, Darcy enjoyed spending time online catching Pokémon or playing video games. His brothers crown him ‘unbeatable’ in Star Wars Battlefront and everyone admits he was talented in laser tag, paintball, darts, and Jenga. Playing Monopoly and poker won’t be the same without “All-In Darcy,” who will be missed at Games Night. His family also fondly remembers Darcy for his Dance Dance Revolution moves in front of the TV and on random stages.
Darcy enjoyed hanging out with his brothers, sister, cousins, and friends at places like Kits Beach, The “Borrough” (if you’ve been, you know), sporting events at BC Place, Legends Pub, The Delta Lion Pub, and any place that could be made into a good time.
He made many family memories spending summers and holidays at his grandparents’ property in Merritt. He could be counted on to play Santa at Christmas, handing out the pile of presents from under the tree. His elf on the shelf, Merv, and Donatello Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle stocking will miss him.
Darcy loved quick getaways and made the most of little trips to Disneyland, Las Vegas, Oregon, Toronto, Chicago, and Mexico.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of Aster Place in Richmond. Your compassionate support for Darcy during his challenging times and the fun social events you shared with him during his stay meant the world to him and to us.
Darcy will be remembered for his humour, thoughtfulness, and caring heart. Wherever he went, he was welcoming and could make those around him smile. Always putting others before himself, he could be counted on to encourage those around him. The impact he left on every life he touched was truly lasting.
In the past few years, Darcy loved the show The Mandalorian. He got a tattoo that reads "This Is the Way" written in Mandalorian. Darcy, we hope you are at peace and are finding Your Way. We love and will forever miss you.
