Donald Herbert Chunn (Sept 22, 1951 – July 29, 2026) passed away peacefully at his home in Burnaby at the age of seventy-four. He is survived by his sisters Debbie and Brenda (Andrew), his niece Tina, his nephews Russell and Blair, and by his extended family, John (Cindy), Charlene (Gary), Kim, Deborah and Stevie (Ann).
Don was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Doreen and Bert Chunn. The family moved to Vancouver in 1963, where Don attended Templeton Secondary School. While in high school, Don joined the Burnaby Air Cadets, which led to a lifelong association with the Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE), a community service organization that supported many cadet units at the time.
After graduating from Templeton, Don joined BC Hydro, where he worked until his retirement in 2016. His knowledge of Hydro’s computer systems was so comprehensive that the company re-hired him as a consultant to assist users across the company in adapting to new software.
Throughout his life, Don was an enthusiastic golfer, played many courses with family and friends. He was a loyal fan of the BC Lions and the Vancouver Canucks, and of Canadian sports in general.
Don traveled extensively and left a trail of photographs and postcards from many memorable locations, including Australia, India, the Galapagos Islands and other parts of the world.
Don was a source of great support to his family. As his sister Debbie expressed it: “He was always there when you needed him”.
Don contributed to the larger community through the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He built up many strong relationships with people in the British Columbia affiliates, and participated in raising money for charity, including a $500,000 donation to the Parkinson Society of British Columbia in 2020.
Don had a quiet sense of humor that people who knew him came to appreciate. He brought light to the world around him, and our memories of him will be happy ones.
If you wish to donate in his memory, the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation supports research and treatment in the area of heart health.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hamilton Harron Funeral Home, 5390 Fraser Street, Vancouver, BC, V5W2Z1, CA, on August 19, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
