Fung Kwan was born on March 18th, 1927. She was part of a big family of 22 brothers and sisters. Fung Kwan was always surrounded by relatives, who taught her many skills, such as arts and crafts, knitting, and cooking. Growing up in a traditional Chinese family, she also had the wonderful opportunity to attend school and complete her diploma.
In her 20s, Fung Kwan moved to Hong Kong, where she helped in the Yeung family shoe business. They were also able to expand into designing children's clothing. In the 1960s, the family store, Sanda, was one of the famous retail stores in Hong Kong.
When Fung Kwan retired in Vancouver, she was a proud and caring mother, grandmother, and caregiver to my father. They had a very relaxed and happy time together, and were avid travellers. They especially enjoyed cruises with their grandkids to different parts of the world, including China, Japan, the Mediterranean, and Northern Europe.
Through the joys and challenges of life, Fung Kwan always approached it with positivity. In her final decade of life, she was constantly surrounded by the love and laughter of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She touched all our lives, and leaves an enduring legacy of strong family values, respect, and kindness.
