George Afendoulis
With Sadness and love, we announce the passing of our father, husband and grandfather (Pappou). He passed away at Vancouver General Hospital on September 16, 2025, surrounded by this family. He was 89 years old.
He is survived by his wife Evangelia, his sons Tony (Debbie), Andy and his daughter Georgia, grandchildren Adam and Stella.
George was born on August 22, 1936, in Almyros, near the city of Volos, Greece.
George immigrated to Canada in 1965 to Vancouver where he later met his future wife Evangelia, they married and had three children.
He trained to be an Electrician and then started his own electrical contracting business. He was also an active member of the Greek community in his earlier years. In his retirement he enjoyed his grandchildren very much, they were the light of his life and his joy. He was a generous person and would always help someone who needed to be helped. He always had a smile on his face and at family gatherings he was a storyteller, telling stories that amused everyone.
He will be dearly missed by all his family.
Remember by Christina Rosetti
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
