Gertrudes Nagal Somera

Gertrudes Nagal Somera, a kind-hearted and devoted woman, passed away on December 2, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on November 16, 1954, Gertrudes was a resident of Burnaby, British Columbia. Her life was marked by resilience, selflessness, and compassion, traits that she carried with her throughout her journey.

Gertrudes moved to Canada from the Philippines in 1996, seeking better opportunities for her family. She dedicated her career to the service of others as a registered nurse, working in hospitals, hospices, and care homes. Her patience and generosity were evident in her personal and professional life . She was understanding and endlessly giving to the needs of her family, friends, her patients and coworkers.

Beloved wife to Prudencio Somera and a loving mother to Allan, Glenn (Kendra), and the late Jan Michael, She was a dear sister to Grace "Bing," Josie, Dario (Zeny), and Cristeta, and will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her brother Severino "Boy."

Gertrudes had a passion for cooking and was known for her amazing culinary skills, especially during celebrations and holidays. Her thoughtful nature came through as she always took care of others, putting their needs before her own. She supported her children in their education and careers, embodying a spirit of generosity and thoughtfulness. Gertrudes was the matriarch and glue of her family.

A funeral service will be held at Hamilton Harron Funeral Home, located at 5390 Fraser Street, Vancouver, BC, on December 6, 2025, at 10:00 am. Reception to follow.
