Helen Joan Petrie

Helen Joan Petrie passed away peacefully at home on May 11, 2026 at age 77 with her husband, Glen at her side. She resided in Vancouver, B.C. Helen was born on August 25, 1948 and was raised in Trinidad , the second oldest child of Frank and Joan Mayers (deceased). She emigrated to Canada in 1967 and studied at Simon Fraser University.

Helen married Glen Petrie in 1971; they welcomed their first son, Nicholas, in 1973 and their second son, Gordon, in 1977. Once both boys were in school full time, she became a care aide at a nursing home in Richmond, B.C. and worked there for 16 years, until injuries forced her to leave. She later became a cashier at a supermarket and worked there until age 67.

Helen was active in her church and community for many years and was one of the founders of the Richmond Food Bank. She loved her sons and family and always had a cheerful way about her, even when her heart and kidney issues progressively worsened.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the Cardiac and Hemodialysis units and the staff at the 11th floor of Vancouver General Hospital for their years of loving care and first class treatment of Helen.

Funeral services will be held at Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home, 306 East 11th Avenue, Vancouver on Friday, May 22nd at 2 PM. There will be a reception in the hall after the service.
