It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Ivan Cheong, a truly wonderful husband, father, son, brother, uncle, mentor, and friend. Ivan was born on November 9, 1961, and left this world on June 6, 2023. He is survived by his wife Yong Jie (Diane) Huang, daughter Cindy Cheong, and son Kevin Cheong; his mother Sylvia Cheong; his sister Doreen Cheong and his nephews Gavin, Ryan, and Jordan Pon; his sister Jennifer Cheong; and his niece Megan Cheong and nephew Jason Cheong.
Ivan had an infectious personality, always lighting up any room he entered. Known for his exceptional sense of humor, keen intelligence, and unwavering work ethic, he had the rare ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Ivan's outgoing, kind, and creative spirit made him an inspiration to everyone he met.
Throughout his life, one of Ivan's greatest lessons was demonstrating how to be a great person. He led by example, always displaying kindness, patience, and understanding. His tireless efforts to create a better life for his family, friends, and community were apparent in everything he did.
One of Ivan's most remarkable accomplishments was his solo immigration from South Africa to Canada. Determined to create a better future for his family, Ivan navigated the challenges of immigration with courage and grace, building a new life in an unfamiliar land.
Not only that, Ivan has worked over 29 years at Telus, working through many different departments of the organization and making an impact. In his career, he has travelled far and wide, making friends all around the world. He truly worked hard to follow his passions and to provide for his loving family.
In his spare time, Ivan enjoys playing foosball, squash, and swimming. He has also recently picked up on choir singing with his wife and learning Mandarin. However, most importantly, he values family - spending time with them and going on weekend adventures and outings.
Ivan's legacy will live on through his family and in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched. His impact will continue to inspire and guide us, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Ivan will be missed dearly. His absence will be deeply felt, and his memory will be cherished forever.
If you wish, in lieu of flowers, please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada on Ivan's behalf.
Thank you for all the love and support over this time, family is greatly appreciated.
