Jim was known for his witty sense of humor, corny jokes, giving nature and always trying to put a smile on someone's face. There was nobody more generous then Jim.
Jim was a loving husband to his wife Sharyn and a fantastic father to his children: Carlene (Mike), Shawn (Kam), Christopher (Samantha) and Charles. His pride and joy however were his grandchildren: Levi, Leah, Zoe, Karleigh, Shyanne, Demitra, Andrew and Nicole. Jim was predeceased by his son Jamie Platko and his Parents Edna Terepocki and Mike Platko.
Jim was born and raised in East Van and worked for the City of Vancouver in the Sanitation department for over 40 years. In his life outside of work he volunteered in many children's sports associations, helping to shape the lives of the many he had the pleasure of coaching. This was a very rewarding part of Jim's life and was still apparent up until the end. He was always in the stands cheering for the people he loved and would often hear call outs for "Mr.P" from past players in the community that are now grown.
His neighbours at the Kanata Co-op will miss seeing Jim outside tending to his garden, and greeting passer-byers. Kanata will not be the same without him here or the giant Halloween and Christmas displays.
Jim did so much for the community but his passion was for helping all children, especially those in need. He loved Christmas and generously donated to many charities and toy drives over the years. We will be carrying on his legacy with this tradition. In lieu of flowers we will be accepting toys or cash donations for a local Christmas toy drive this next holiday season.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 28th at the Kanata Hall, 7155 Blake Street from 12-4 pm. Please drop in to share stories, jokes, laughs, tears and respects.
Happy Trails, Jim. We love you!
