

Born on August 18th, 1942, in Vancouver, BC, she was the child of Dick & Mildred Irving. She grew up in Burnaby and was among the first graduates of Burnaby Central High in 1961. Training as a dental hygienist, later moving on to switchboard operator, typist and administrator where she would make new friends and shortly thereafter meet her husband to be. Joan was an entrepreneur and mother of two. Her official title at the office was secretary/bookkeeper but may best be described by her friends and family as “the Whip” – sounding board and life partner involved in several businesses including a collateral recovery company and establishing an RV Park in time for EXPO’86. Joan also loved the outdoors and enjoyed walking around Deer lake and hiking in the mountains near the family cabin at Mt. Baker.
Joan was predeceased by her husband John D. McLeod in 2005, sisters, Barbara McDonald, Kathleen (& Martin) Bucher and parents Dick & Mildred Irving. Joan is survived by her children Trish (& Steve) Leptick and John R. McLeod and grandchild, Katherine Leptick.
