It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of our dear relative John Victor Lewis. John was born to his parents Jack & Cecillia ‘Cherry’ (nee Thomas) Lewis on December 6, 1969 in North Vancouver and passed away suddenly on December 16, 2020 in Vancouver. He was 51 years old. John descends from the Lewis/Antone & Thomas/George, Corris families of Squamish and Tsleilwaututh First Nations.
John grew up in Xwméch’sten. Capilano Indian Reserve No. 5, in North Vancouver and attended Norgate Community Elementary School and Keith Lynn Alternative Secondary School. John played road hockey and soccer in his youth. He loved cooking and travelling and worked for a tourist industry detailing busses as well as landscaping. He loved fishing also preparing traditional northern style salmon in smoke house and jarring. He was very easy going and generous in nature and will be especially remembered for his special relationship with his sister Rene who lives with cerebral palsy (CP).
John is survived by his parents Jack Ronald Lewis & Cecelia “Cherry” Kathleen Cheryl Lewis (nee: Thomas); siblings Gregory Sampson Lewis, Renee Christina Lewis and Dion ‘Freddy’ Lewis; son Martin Baker (Lauryn); grandchildren Madilynn Kaydence August-Baker, Mateyo Kim Kwe Ah Kultin Baker, Makaiya Kendrick Sewlawten Baker; special friend Trudy Wesley; nieces & nephews Samantha Kylie Lewis, Malcolm Leonard Paull, Cedric Andrew Lewis, Aidan Edward Lewis Conesa, Sierra Emily Lewis-Conesa, Gregory Ethan Lewis; Grandniece & nephew Camila Lillianna Cortes Lewis and Donovan Mackenzie Contreras Lewis; and many loving relatives and dear friends.
Due to the Provincial Health Officer order on province-wide restrictions a private family service will be held Wednesday December 23, 2020 at the Squamish Nation Shaker Church at 1:00 pm. Online condolences can be found at www.dignitymemorial.com.
