Kathleen Dorothy Violet MonkAugust 31, 1927 - August 11, 2009Kathleen was born in Toronto, Ontario on August 31, 1927. She was the 2nd child of eight born to William and Dorothy Monk. Kathleen was raised in Quebec and moved to Welland, Ontario when she was in her late teens. It was in Welland where she met and married the love of her life, Glyn. Kay and Glyn had four children, Margaret, John, Coleen and David. Her life was her family. When Glyn passed away in 1980 her heart was broken. When her youngest child tragically died in 1984 her world was shattered. Losing David was a loss she never recovered from but managed to tuck her grief and pain away in her heart and continue living her life.Mom has 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren that she dearly loved. She was very proud of all the children.Mom valued her friends and appreciated that they cared so much for her. After her family and friends, Mom's love of cats gave her so much joy. She absolutely loved her cats. Mom enjoyed laughing and talking about her Siamese cats, Sammy and Tammy, and Old Tom. Mom cared for her Fatty until he passed away and her newest baby, Little Buddy kept her real busy because he is so mischievous.Mom loved music. She grew up in a musical family and we grew up with the sound of her voice singing. She has been to many concerts ranging from Willie Nelson, Elton John, Yanni, Rod Stewart, Billy Joel, to seeing the Rolling Stones twice, and the list goes on.We cannot think about Mom without mentioning her love of Smarties and Pepsi. The highlight of Mom's day was cuddling up with a good book and a tall glass of Pepsi with ice cubes floating in it and finishing it off with 2 small packages of Smarties. We were blessed with a wonderful mother. She taught us how to be strong and how to be tender. She taught us by the way she lived her life. And she loved us every day of our lives. We always knew who we were and where we belonged. We were all close to our Mother. We all have special memories and we know we were always her pride and joy. She loved us, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren and we love her. We will miss her so much.
