Larry and I have been friends for almost 80 years. We met in Gladstone School in Winnipeg and have been friends with him and his mother, and his Uncle and Aunt. When I told him our family was moving to Vancouver, he told me they were also moving to Vancouver, and they came a few months after us.  We had many good times together. Although the war interrupted, we got together many times and eventually we both got married and met less frequently, but we always got together at least once a year, evenafter i moved from North Vancouver, to Langley, and then to Chilliwack. Our last visit was at my son's in Maple Ridge, in August.
It was sad to hear that Lawrence passed away. My condolences to Janice and the family.

My grandparents knew the Shantlers as they lived near them for many years .
My parents and other members of our family also lived near them too. There was a community bond between everyone in the area .Larry was well known to area residents as he worked or volunteered on many election days in the community polling place

I knew Larry from work, he was always happy and ready to help people. A dedicated worker who went beyond the call of duty.
I remember him as a real nice man that was always in good spirits, never sad or annoyed.

Dear Mrs.Shantler, Jeff, and family,
Even though it has been many years since we have seen Mr.Shantler, we wanted to let you all know how sorry we were to hear of his passing.  The Shantler and McRurie families have been friends for many years.  Even the next generation is connected with Jeff and our son, Scott, working together at Air Canada.
Please take care and know our thoughts are with your family during this difficult time.

Larry was always a down to earth man who always practiced kindness, patience and humility. We will all miss him family, friends and posties alike.

Thank-you for everything you did for our family and for being there during times when we need a helping hand . I know you are in a place of good with family and old friends .

Larry and I were both born in Manitoba and we shared that mutual interest. We joked about politics civic , provincial and federal for the entire time we knew each other. He loved his garden and was a loyal friend and neighbour to our family and others. We will never forget his help when illness struck our family . Rest In Peace Larry ....our condoleces to Janice and the entire family and extended family of friends .

Our family has known the Shantler family for more than  63 years .We saw them daily . Larry was bigger than life as he had so many interests and a wide circle of friends as he  was a well known Canada Post employee.
He had a great wit and loved Canadian history. He loved politics and elections and other community groups. Our family will always be thankful for help he gave members of our family when they were ill.Our condolences to the Shantler family and all Larry's former coworkers and circle of friends
