

In Loving Memory of Si7em Dr Lee Maracle, nee-Marguerite Aline Carter, July 2, 1950-Nov. 11, 2021. Lee passed away at Surrey Memorial Hospital at the age of 71 surrounded by family and loved ones who held her, caressed her, encouraged and loved her in the final hours of her earth walk. Her family shared the outpouring of words from her loving communities near and far. After her passing, they sent her off with song. Lee Maracle was predeceased by her grandparents, Fermin and Germaine Croutze, Dan and Amy George, her parents, Dr. Robert George, Jeanne (Fran) Carter (nee Croutze), (Phil Carter) and her siblings, Nelson and Edwin Carter, Elizabeth, Josephine, Deb, and Roy George, foster sister and brother, Toni Ramirez(Thomas) and Allan Grant. Lee Maracle is survived by her daughters, Tania Carter and Columpa Carmen Bobb and her fur baby Skookum Jim, her sons, Sid Bobb (Penny Couchie) and Jaret Maracle (Jim Meunier); her grandchildren, Kwanita Cohen, Animikiikwe Couchie-Waukey, Ouske Couchie-Bobb, Samantha (Hank) Maracle-Bee, Orion Cedar Troy Abraham Sid Maracle, Chanel Smith, Jerika Thomas-Bond, Jessica Thomas-Bond, great grandchildren, Gregory, Lisa, Mary, Jadzia, Margaret, Darrick, Florence-Rose, her brothers, Roger, Gord(Liz) and George Carter, Rob George(Mitzi),Greg, Gord(Audrey), Thomas and Frank George, her sisters, Joyce(Brian) McLellan, Joan(Grand Chief Stewart)Phillip, Cheri(Jack) Lewis, Glenna(Alvin) Schooner, Mary George(Eugene), Christine(Fran)George, Roberta(Berta) George(Stephen), Lucille(Lucy)Girioux(Roger) and the father of her children, Ray Bobb. Lee is also survived by many nieces and nephews, adopted children and grandchildren that she loved deeply. Our hands up to those who supported Lee and family during her final hours and her spirit-journey to join our ancestors including Lisa Carter, Joyce Mclellen, Charlene Aleck, Dan Commanda, Rueben George, Gabriel and Angela George, TA7AH Amy Marie George, Sue George, Tanya Hastie, Cigi Carpenter, Willis Baker Jr, Byron Joseph, Eugene and Bernadette Gus. She held posts at a number of Canadian universities and won numerous accolades for her prolific work including Ontario’s Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Order of Canada. Lee will be dearly missed and forever remembered by the many people whose lives she touched.
