December 1st, 1923 – March 16th, 2018
Margaret passed away peacefully on March 16th, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren at Columbus Residence in Vancouver. During the war, Margaret worked as a riveter at the Boeing Airplane Company Production Plant in Richmond. She cycled to this job every day from 10th and Granville.
After the war, Margaret worked as the store manager at the Window Bakery, which is where she met Harold Ransom Hanna. Lucky for him, she agreed to a date despite being way out of his league (as he told the story). They married in 1947 and raised six children in the Kitsilano neighbourhood of Vancouver.
Margaret was part of United Church Women, and she and her family were very involved in St. James United Church. Harold passed away in 2006. Her daughters Glennis McLeod (Dave) and Maureen Hanna, and grandson Scott Sim passed away in recent years. Margaret is survived by her loving family: children Grace Hoover (Richard), Pam Palmer (Richard, deceased), Chad Hanna (Karen), and Janice Hanna; grandchildren, Greg Hoover (Mary), Tarynne Hoover (Kurt), Jeff Palmer (Maria), Michael Hoover (Christie), Grant Sim, Alison Palmer (Stephen), Jonathan Sim, Johanna Swanson (Eric), Stephanie Cadiz (Benjamin), Alexander Peters (Gillian), and Christopher Hanna (Janna); thirteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Margaret will be remembered as an incredibly steady and strong woman. She was welcoming and kind, and took great care of her family.
She loved hearing the bagpipes, playing bridge, solving crossword puzzles, and working in the garden. Margaret also loved making special Sunday dinners complete with delicious desserts, which she was known for. Margaret was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in honour of Margaret to Columbus Residence (704 W. 69th Avenue, Vancouver V6P 2W3), which provided her with heartfelt care over her last eight years of life. To express your regards, please visit: www.dignitymemorial.ca.
