Margaret Irene (Peggy)Hart, 96 years, was born December 30, 1922 in Edmonton, Alberta. On September 9, 2019 she peacefully passed away in Vancouver (Burnaby), and continued on her journey to the afterlife.
Loving wife/soulmate, devoted mother, caring sister/sister-in-law, cherished aunt, and a dear friend to many had quite the life of discovery and adventure. 1942-1945 as a Royal Canadian Navy Wren, one of the first, she not only saw service chasing submarines on a Catalina flying boat, she also chased William James (Jim) Hart her predeceased sailor who would share favourite times with her at Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, later to wed in Hamilton, Ontario. Early in the war she lost her father who served. Also predeceased are her mother, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Youngest son Rick left us too soon a few years back giving Mom and all of us heavy hearts. Left to cherish her with memories are her eldest son Gary (Susan) from Winnipeg, Manitoba, her daughter-in-law Joy (Rick) from Parksville, BC, and all of her loving and caring family. Aunt Peg dearly loved her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Many friends and relatives from coast to coast shared good times and visits. This took her to Hamilton where the real horse riding cowgirl who rode the Rockies showed her grit and good humour taking the name of Annie Oakley in stride. In Winnipeg she was a member of the exclusive Yak Yak (Girls) Club, and boy could they yak amongst other craziness.
Peg carried on her Pen Pal hobby throughout her life with pals in Japan, Hong Kong, and even with an Aussie flying doctor’s family. She would send cards to most anyone so you might have been on her list. She was an early starter in social media without a computer.
Sports knew her well. Award winning baseball champ, competition diver, speed skater, track and field athlete, and a focused crib player who made great chili sauce and Pussers’ rum mincemeat tarts.
Love and miss you, Mom.
Special thanks to Veteran’s Affairs Canada and Joseph Waugh BC/Yukon Royal Canadian Legion, Rita and Gord Graham, Maren, the folks at Cavell Gardens, George Derby Centre, and all whom she loved and to those who loved her for your care and attention. You made a difference.
