Margaret Elsie MacLean

Peggy was born on April 5, 1929, to the late Frank and Edith (Ellis) Koughan in the small northern Ontario town of Iroquois Falls.

Peggy was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Monty F. Koughan, and her husband of 45 years, William Mair MacLean (Bill).

She is survived by her daughter Wendy Parkes (Michael), grandchildren Andrew and Chris, great-granddaughter Alexa, nephew William (Bill) Koughan and his children Sarah and Ryan, niece Patricia Koughan, cousin Mark Jamison (Jill), and numerous close and cherished nieces and nephews and friends.

Peggy was educated at Iroquois Falls public and high schools, received a B.A. from the University of Toronto, and a high school teaching certificate from the Ontario College of Education.

For nine years, 1952-1961, Peggy was a commissioned officer in the RCAF Reserve, participating in training and serving in 2400 Aircraft Control & Warning (AC&W) Squadron at Station Toronto.

In her professional life, Peggy enjoyed a number of interesting and challenging secretarial positions in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. She also loved two years of high school teaching at Northern Secondary School in Toronto. She retired in 1988 and several years later undertook volunteering for Volunteer Richmond, Minoru Residence, and for 12 years was a Green Coat at Vancouver International Airport, where she enjoyed helping travellers and made many new friends.

Throughout her life, Peggy’s interests included reading, walking, curling, golfing, bowling, bridge and travelling with her husband, daughter and friends.

A celebration of life will take place at 11am on Saturday, October 3, at the Hamilton Harron Funeral Home, 5390 Fraser Street, Vancouver, BC.
