Our beloved mother and grandmother passed away after bravely battling several illnesses with courage and an unwavering faith in the Lord. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Neil, her parents, Frank and Gladys Selby and her brother David. She will be dearly missed by her children, Ian (Dimitra) and Karen (David); her five grandchildren, Adrienne (Pierre), Callum and Alexandra MacPhee, Kathryn and Gavin Irvine, who were her pride and joy; as well as relations in the U.K. and her many dear friends.
Margaret was born in Oldham, England on February 19, 1939, and immigrated with her family to her forever home in Vancouver in 1958. A faithful servant of the Lord, Margaret was dedicated to her church, West Point Grey Baptist Church. Her deep love of music and singing was evident in her years of participation in the church and community choirs. She was known for her warm smile and joyful laugh. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family. She loved watching her grandchildren at their various sporting activities and spending time at the family cabin in Point Robert’s. Margaret gave her time generously, volunteering with The Hob: Vancouver Hospice Society, Brock House, UBC Hospital, and the Dunbar Soccer Association. Her adventurous spirit and love of travel took her around the world, where she enjoyed seeing new places and meeting new people.
The family would like to thank the wonderful people who helped Margaret throughout her health challenges, especially Dr. Joanne Irwin, her devoted physician for 33 years, as well as Dr. Nathan Brunner and Dr. Abeed Jamal, and the many compassionate homecare providers.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 1:00 pm at West Point Grey Baptist Church, 4509 W. 11th Ave. Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vancouver Hospice Society, 4615 Granville St, Vancouver, BC, V6H 3M1. 604-737-7305
