Margaret Potter

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved mother, Margaret Mae Potter (née Rebagliati) of Vancouver, BC, who passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, at the age of 94. Born in Kamloops, BC, on May 31, 1932 she relocated to Vancouver at 22 to work as a legal secretary. She would tell you she was a speedy typist and shorthand master. Marg was the bedrock of a family of six—wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker whose motto was “Family First”. She lived by those words each day and was deeply devoted to her husband, John “Jack” Potter, whom she married in 1955 and shared more than five decades with until his passing in 2006. They enjoyed travelling many places in the world and worked tirelessly to build a family and make a home filled with memories. Her love was expressed not only in words, but in all she did—from the lovely home she created, to the countless ways she made family feel cared for and loved.

Marg had many interests and creative talents, a discerning eye for beauty, and excelled in all she did. She was an avid painter, decorator, seamstress, quilter, photographer, and cruciverbalist. She especially took pride in creating a beautiful garden. Perhaps her greatest passion was as a cook and hostess where she had a remarkable ability to turn an ordinary gathering into a special occasion. Her ambitious meals and gracious hospitality brought people together and created countless cherished memories for the family, her friends, and our friends alike.

Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her children Barb Di Marco (Jim, deceased 2021), Colin, Charles (Harveen Thauli), and Tim (Neema); and her grandchildren Vaughn (Léa), Hamilton, Sameer and Uma. She was predeceased by her husband, John Potter; her father, Charles Rebagliati (1989); her mother, Rose (2004); her brother, Gordon (1982); her sister, Noni (2019); and her many beloved nieces and nephews. Marg leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment to family, creativity and the importance of gathering around the table. Her generous spirit and unending devotion to family will be sorely missed. May she rest peacefully and be surrounded by the love that she so freely gave to others.
