It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our matriarch, Margaret Sandor. Born in Tiszagyenda, Hungary, Margaret left her family farm at an early age in search of an education. She studied hard and went on to complete business school. In the evenings she learned to be a good cook
from her aunty. She fell in love with our father Karoly and married in 1955, right before the Hungarian Revolution. They foresaw an intolerable future and escaped over the border by bribing a border guard with her wedding ring. They were airlifted to England where Margaret cleaned floors in the TB ward. Canada accepted them as refugees in1957 placing them in Edmonton. In 1959 they moved to Vancouver.
Margaret bore two daughters who survive her: Esther (Jock) born in Edmonton, and Martha (Campbell) born in Vancouver. Margaret went on to live a life full of hard work, learning, and family
happiness. She was resourceful, stubborn, intelligent, athletic, wise, and kind. She was amazing with numbers, was a trusted friend, and of late became a competitive bridge player. Her grandchildren Hannah, Hailey, and Dashiell say she was "perfect". Try as we may we can find no faults and her passing has left a huge void and too much silence. We miss her so very much. Margaret leaves behind her husband, children, and grandchildren as well as two of her four siblings; Helen and Anna, and many other relatives in Hungary and around the world. There will be a private burial, and, in the summertime, we will gather to celebrate
her life. Condolences and any thoughts you would like to share may be left at Hamiltonharronfunerals.com.
