My parents, Bernardete and Jose Santos, became good friends with Jeannie when they all lived in the same house-apartment complex at what is now the CBC News building in downtown Vancouver. Such was the close friendship that my mom asked Jeannie to be my godmother. As the years went by, they continued their friendship and would call each other almost every day. My mom told me many times that Jeannie was a most cherished friend! I didn't know Jeannie until around 2013 when my mom would get me to talk to her when I was in town visiting from Prince George. In October 2013, my mom passed away suddenly and Jeannie said she would call my dad each day, as she had my mom, to keep my dad's spirits up. We exchanged phone numbers and started to keep in touch regularly and I would go visit Jeannie, bringing gifts from the garden from my dad. In January 2016, my dad's cancer took a turn for the worse, and at times he would say he wouldn't do this or do that for his treatment, but, I would tell Jeannie and she would call him and say in her friendly way "ah compadre you need to do what they say for your own good", and then afterwards he would. After my dad passed away in November 2016, Jeannie and I continued to stay in touch and she was always very friendly and supportive...."next time you're in town, you come and visit me!", or, "when are you coming down?!", she would say enthusiastically. Jeannie was typically cheerful and upbeat and always appreciated anything I sent or brought over. She would always call to thank me when she recieved a business or Canucks calender that I mailed. We would have many laughs; we would joke a lot about the Canucks and lately she started educating me about the very interesting characters on Wrestling!! Jeannie was a kind, bright and sweet soul; I will miss her!! I send my sincere sympathy and warm wishes to Jeannie's family.
