Kuya Teddy is a friendly and gentle person. 

My name is Lailyn Veradio- Hogan. I’ve known Kuya Teddy since 2008 in the Filipino community and been friends since then and became a family. Kuya Teddy volunteered to be the photographer in my ceremony and operated his sound system on my wedding reception. My husband and I were very grateful to Kuya Teddy. We had a blasts and so did our guests. We sang and danced till midnight. My family used to looked after his house downtown when he visited the Philippines and when he spent Christmas holidays in Vancouver. We cooked, ate and slept at his house just like our own. Kuya Teddy always set up his Karaoke machine everytime I dropped by at his house especially on Thursdays because we both have the same day off.  He welcomed my family, even my parents when they came to Canada for a visit and my dad became his buddy and treated us to dinner when his tenant did something in his apartment. He knocked at my door most of the time and said “are you free today? Can you help me clean and then we’ll have something to eat after”. He called me once because he was getting late at work because his car had problems and told me, “ Can you call my boss at work and tell him that I am running late? And he kept phoning me and left a message if he can’t get ahold of my brother Russel because they had to fix something or he needed help. Kuya Teddy You are with our Creator now. You are  gone but never forgotten. 

I was only able connect with Manong Teddy last year, 2021, we are cousins because his late mother was the eldest and my late mother was the youngest of the Bandiala clan and they were sisters. It was short but we often talked on the phone since then hence, it was like I have known him for years. He was loving, compassionate and full of wisdom. He was already physically weak at his age but he was fiercely firm on his decisions. He told me stories of how he persevered at his young age and migrated here in Canada, he was proud of his family and how they have achieved and lived a successful life now yet his heart is full of humility, God fearing and he disliked people who took advantage and overstepped other peoples rights. However, during our conversations he always looked back his adventures during his younger days of which I believed he will be glad if I share it here. He said, “I had so much fun and wonderful memories working at the farmlands of my grandparents in both sides of mother and father. It was always a privileged to be one of the eldest grandson of Tatay Fino Bandiala, (our grandparents)because every time I asked him for my allowance, Tatay Fino let’s me fill as many sacks of rice grains that I’m able to carry and sell it (he laughed), but he said, while my grandparents of Dolotallas  was different because I still have to work hard so I’ll be given my share…. Also,  he was sincere when he told me, “I’m happy that you also made it here in USA, I’m proud of you! And I replied in awe, “I’m only following your footsteps  and he laughed and said, Ohh you will succeed here, keep praying and trust God in everything you do!” Oh yes, Manong Teddy was a role model of his younger generations blessed by God’s spoken promises in Genesis 12:1-3. I wish we had more time talking with each other and meet you in person but it says in Ecclesiastes 3:2 , A time to be born, and a time to die… Peace and rest in your eternal home with the Lord!
