Dr. Choi is always with me. I did not never forget him in the last 5 years . He was kind, expert, respect full and helpful . After 30 years living in Canada i never saw any doctor like him . He is allays in my mind. He was not just a doctor , he was a  unique human being, God bless him. To me he is always alive.

I am remembering again, our wonderful Dr. Mathew Choi. He was a fantastic doctor, but also a very caring and kind man. Incredibly professional and authentic, being respectful and at one point towards the end sharing a personal matter that I felt privileged to offer to pray for. 
He referred my wife for fertility guidance from specialists but it was him that solved it. He prescribed metformin and had my wife set a goal of losing 7 lbs, then looking at fertility medication. Before that could happen my wife became pregnant, after 12 years of trying.  When we then went to the obstretician he was amazed and pleased that Dr. Choi had already ordered the preliminary testing. He also came up with the perfect treatment for my frozen shoulder, my mental health needs and much else that specialists had not treated as well. He is very missed.

Hello Dr Choi’s family , 
I just found that the world lost a great human being , a doctor who was really passionate about his patients, a doctor who really cared and felt responsible for his patients. He was my GP since I moved to Coquitlam in 2005 , taking care of myself and my family . I moved to Toronto in 2013 and sadly had to say goodbye to Dr Choi. However, I still remember his kind face. 
I just wanted to wish his beautiful soul to rest in peace. His memories will always be with me. I was heartbroken when I accidentally found that he passed away!

I just found out now that Dr. Choi passed on. He was my son’s doctor and was an instrumental force with regards to my son’s battle with mental illness. He was a lifeline to us. We were just talking about him the other day and what a great doc he was. I’m so sad.

I only heard today of Dr.Choi’s passing, as I was told by the office that he has retired. He was a most wonderful doctor, caring and always willing to spend as much time as needed with his patients. He was my doctor for 20 years, having watched me grow from my late teens, go through many life stages, partners and the birth of my son. He will be greatly missed. Wishing his family all the best. 

I was deeply saddened to only learn of Dr. Choi's passing today as we were under the impression he had retired. He was our family doctor for almost 20 years and even after we moved to Maple Ridge, we stuck with him as no one else could compare to his kindness, knowledge, and thoroughness in our eyes. He was a true professional and a wonderful person; we miss him dearly.

I just returned from out of country and learned of the passing of Dr. Choi. He was my family doctor for over 20 years and my heart is broken to hear of his passing.  He was thoughtful, kind, caring, and the world has lost a wonderful human being.

I and my wife have so appreciated Dr. Choi over the years. There was no problem that Dr. Choi was not able to solve, in fact doing better than the specialists he referred us to after they were not able to provide a solution.  We have our daughter after many years of infertility, Dr. Choi was the doctor that came up with the right approach that lead to success in pregnancy, not the many specialists. Dr. Choi was caring and genuine, a good listener and he left no stone unturned. I was shocked and saddened to hear that Dr. Choi passed away, we will so miss him.

What a wonderful family doctor we had the privilege of having over all these years since he started being a family doctor, in a walk-in clinic in Coquitlam, besides Save on Foods. Dr Choi was an exceptional human being who gave our family, the comfort of knowing, that you were in good hands.  He was a very thorough doctor and went all the way to find which was your problem.  He took care of my mom, us, my kids and my grandchildren.  We are going to miss you so much Dr Choi. A few years ago, we went on a short missionary trip with Matthew in Mission. We found out that we used to attend the same church in Edmonton. 

We can vividly remember how Matthew enthusiastically served with compassion and deep care for the dignity of the people of the First Nation.  He even cared for us team-mates by providing us with disinfecting soup. 

When Esther returned to Canada five years ago, many friends suggested that she sought to become a patient of Matthew because of his exceptional professionalism and compassion. Needless to say, his already fully packed schedule left no room for any new patients. Yet, in his amidst his extremely busy schedule, Matthew left his Wednesdays early to take Theology or Biblical study.  

We really appreciate this brief glimpse into Matthew’s  life, which inspired us that it is how we live our lives that matters. We are truly saddened by his passing.

Our deepest condolence to Macy and the three girls for their immense loss. May the Lord give you special comfort and strength.

We are deeply saddened by the news of Dr. Matthew Choi's passing, and extend our condolences to his family. 

He always stood out as a doctor who went the extra mile for all of his patients -  listening to every concern, spending every necessary moment on each person. Seeing all of the memories here, it is not surprising, but moving to see how many people he helped.

We will never forget the care and compassion Dr. Choi showed my father and our family during his two-year battle with terminal cancer. He did everything he could, and often went out of his way to do house visits until my father's passing. I'd never heard of or seen a doctor who would go so far for his patients, and we were so, so grateful.

We feel truly blessed to have had him as our family doctor for the two decades that followed. He will be sorely missed. Thank you, Dr. Choi, for everything you did.

I found out with deep sadness and regret about Matthew’s passing. He was our family doctor for 20 years, a most caring, highly competent, intelligent and hard working doctor,  for whom I will always have deep respect and will remember him fondly. 
Having read all the other memories on this page, I have an even stronger sense of loss and can’t stop myself from thinking that the world needs more people like Dr. Choi.

I TRULY believe my Dad was heaven sent to Dr. Choi, as he had to change GPs', n on their VERY first appointment, he found my Dads' prostate cancer
Because of this, it was caught VERY early, n my Dad is living a happy healthy life to this day

Some times I was 2 hours late seeing him because he was busy with other patience , I never complained because some times i was the one making everyone else late because he was really going trough everything with me. I just got the shocking news that Dr. Choi had passed away. My husband had been told that had retired, and we thought that was a good thing since he was still very young and could enjoy his life more. However, I was concerned that we needed to find another family doctor,  not an easy task after having Dr. Choi as our family Dr for close to 20 years.

We are very saddened to hear the news and not having being able to support him in whichever way we could.  He took cared of us for so many years.

Our dear Dr. Matthew Choi is wonderful and caring human being. Our family and along with my parents had been with him ever since he opened a clinic at PoCo. Like everyone else said in their sharing that he always took his time to go over your needs. 

Just a little over a year ago, my mom passed away from cancer and now after hearing this news, I know how it feel to lose someone who we really loved. I remembered a year ago when I took my mom to see him as she was diagnosed with cancer, Dr. Choi comforted my mom and he said we are going to fight this cancer. He told my mom, not to worry and God will guide. Truly, God had guided my mom's journey of life and she is now resting. I am sure Dr. Choi served God too during his time all those years and he is now resting in the arms of God. 

May God continue guide to his family and to give them strength and peace in their heart. 

I am devastated to learn the passing of our dear family doctor. Words cannot express my appreciation for how well he took care of us all, going above and beyond to ensure we were always in good hands.  
13 years ago, I was witness to the late night phone calls and evening visits Dr. Choi made to my home to check in on my father who was sadly suffering of cancer. He did everything he could, sacrificing time he could have spent at home with his family to help another remain in peace and comfort.  20 years of selfless care and sacrifice - my family and I will be eternally grateful. 

May his family find solace in knowing that Dr. Choi touched so many lives. He will forever remain beloved in our family and never forgotten. 

Dr. Choi was an unreplaceable friend and family doctor. He has touched so many people in ways that he probably did not know himself!

The BC college of physician has a My Family Doctor Award that patients can nominate their family doctors for.  The deadline to nominate this year is March 31 2021.  If you are looking for a way to remember and honor Dr. Choi  this may be a great opportunity.

The passing of anyone is a sad event, but it's not often that a person who is not a direct relative leaves the emptiness when they pass as Dr. Matthew Choi did.  He had been not only the best possible doctor a family could have, he became a trusted sounding board, a friend, and a part of our family over the last 20 years. Words simply don't do justice and he is already beyond missed. We had hoped for the best for his health and were devastated to hear of his passing. I just found out today of Dr. Choi’s passing and I am truly heartbroken.  I started going to him in 2000 and I immediately liked him.  I told him not too long ago that I always felt safe with him and I did.  Dr. Choi was a phenomenal doctor who cared deeply for his patients.  My heart goes out to his family. I met Dr. Choi in 2001. He has been our family doctor ever since.
Not enough words can express how grateful I am to be in his care for so many years.

We live in Richmond and would not mind driving to Port Coquitlam.  He has been our family doctor for almost 20 years.  We were a young couple when Dr Matthew Choi took us as his patients.  He is someone who lives a life of purpose beyond money, himself and his inner-circles.  A great role model for entrepreneurs, working class and fellow Christians.   His caring nature will always be in our hearts.    He is deeply missed by all of us.  Rest in peace!  

Dr Choi will be truly missed. I met Dr Choi in 2000 when I was pregnant with my first son. I went to a walk in clinic and for the first time ever felt comfortable with a Dr. On that day he sent me to the hospital for some additional tests when other Drs would have sent me home. Because of him I was in the hospital overnight when my son was born 9 weeks early and my son received the immediate care he needed. We will forever be grateful to Dr Choi. 

Dr Choi was one of the good ones. He had a great sense of humor and treated us all with kindness and respect. He always went the extra mile for his patients and we always felt well cared for.

Dr Choi's family is in our prayers - he will be missed by so many!

Dr. Choi was my GP for 15 years. I always left his office feeling better - he felt like a friend not my doctor. Dr. Choi had a bedside manner and a way with people that is so different from any other doctor I have ever met. He took his time to hear all of your concerns, asked after your family members and was blunt as well as direct about the nuisance of the paperwork required by some employers for medical absences. Dr. Choi took pride in being a doctor and giving his patients the best care he could. He was a patient and thoughtful listener. I already miss him as my doctor, and my heart aches for the loss his family has suffered.  Please know Dr. Choi made a difference in many lives. I have been thinking of Dr. Choi and his family often since learning of his illness.  

Dr. Choi was a great doctor and Christian role model.  He was always humble and caring in the way he treated our family.  When we moved to Vancouver from Edmonton in 2013, he not only accepted us as new patients, but also assisted us with finding a new Christian school for our children.  In my last medical physician exam appointment with Dr. Choi on September 29, 2020, he even apologized to me that he couldn’t meet me in person.   Dr. Choi truly treats his patients with care and respect.   We will definitely miss him and see him wearing his soccer jerseys.  Our prayers and condolences go with the family.

He was my doctor for 20 years, I could tell him anything and with a smile he would hear and give me the best possible advice. He was a constant in this life of change. When I started a family he became my wife's and years later my daughter's doctor. My wife adored Dr. Choi, it was the only person in her life who could do no wrong. 
Now it seems that God needed him in heaven and we lost a great human being! Nobody can take your place in our hearts!

Dr. Choi was a good soul and sometimes, good souls depart early. He was a wonderful doctor who would always took care of people around him. In my life, I met many doctors but honestly I have to say that none of them cared as Dr. Choi did. His presence is already being missed at work. We know that this is a very hard time for his family and his patients but we wish his soul to rest in peace. His memories will live with us forever. 



It's hard to imagine you are with the Lord now. It is so hard to take in. So glad to meet you 20 years ago. You helped me to build resiliences during the worst time, and to support me emotionally when I needed. You came to my wedding and and to Kayley's hospital bed after her first surgery as a baby. You were there at most of the milestones and setbacks of my life. Your last call made to me was on September 11 at 9:13pm, and I was so surprised that you were still working that late. I knew you cared.  And reading your doctor notes for absences of work now means so much to me in remembering you.  Thank you for all your care and support, especially during the most stormy moments of my life. Your life testified Christ love so much that God's presence was always with you in your office(s). You life spoke. You sparkled hopes in us. Thank you so much for your sacrifices.

Our  thoughts are with Dr Choi’s family during this difficult time. Dr Choi was our family physician for 18 years. He was kind and compassionate and very dedicated to his patients. I was aware that Doctor Choi was working part time due to personal health challenges however, I did not know the seriousness of his illness until recently. I was very sad to hear about how ill he was. Our family will greatly miss Dr Choi. He was amazing human being. We were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be under his care for so many years. 

Thank you, Dr. Choi, for all the years of care you gave to me and my family. You always spend time answering questions and never rushes a session. I knew Matthew when we were both university students at U. of Alberta.  We both attended the youth fellowship at ECCC, him a Christian and I a seeker.  He drove the church station wagon around the city every Sunday to pick us up for church.  He was kind, patient, insightful and intelligent.  When he shares a few wise words with us, he would do so in humility and sometimes with humour.  He invited me to an evangelical Bible study and he encouraged me and the others to look hard to experience God.  He and Macy were great partners, very evident in their early days of  courtship.  He has fulfilled his calling and is now enjoying the most wonderful fellowship with Christ in heaven.   He is watching how God's hand is holding tight onto Macy and his precious 3 girls, and Matthew's love will continue to blossom in the hearts of his beloved.  Macy, take care!  May God's Words sustain you and your daughters.  May His rod and His staff comfort you  and ease your pain.
