Francisca Ling died at home surrounded by her loving family and received compassionate and professional care from her physician and a team of palliative nurses, including her niece Ada. She left this world gently.
Francisca Ling was born in Hong Kong to Dr. Tsi Chung Francis Ling and Ang Show Elena Ling. She is the eldest daughter and one of five children, Paul Ling (Wendy), Lucia Ling (Bob), Louis Ling (Winnie) and Angela King (Shaun). Her Aunts, Clara Young with daughters Lydia and Josephine, and Bernadette live in the USA as do her Cousins Dr. Stanley Leong and his wife Elizabeth, and son Benjamin and daughter Teresa. Other cousin Phillip Yan lives in Taiwan, and Cousins Anna and David Tung and their daughter live in Hong Kong.
Francisca emigrated along with her family from Hong Kong to Vancouver, Canada in 1973. She attended BCIT and completed a Diploma program in Hotel management. Her career started early in the field of information technology, rather than hospitality. Beginning in the early 80’s, she managed the Topsy Clothing store on Robson for six years, and then transitioned to working the remaining years of her career in the IT field at Ada Computers, Patch Computers, Unisoft and Inproheat Industries Ltd. She worked in technical sales and support, project management, purchasing, marketing and web design. In the latter part of her career, Francisca also enjoyed working as the Health and Safety Manager at Inproheat.
Francisca was unfailing in her Catholic faith, and had a love and deep sense of responsibility to her family and close friends.
In 1997, Francisca married Alec Logan at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, in Vancouver. Throughout their marriage, they worked closely together and supported each other in life, careers, volunteer work, recreation and passions. They were each other’s best friend.
Francisca had a passion for helping others, and this was expressed in the meaningful work that she did in the areas of mental health and elder care. Her volunteer work included the British Columbia Schizophrenia Society, Coast Mental Health, Vancouver Coastal Health Advisory Committee and Villa Cathay Care Home.
More recently at Villa Cathay, Francisca was regularly involved in ‘singing to the ladies’ on karaoke nights with the rest of the home’s volunteer singers. She also came to become chair of the Villa Cathay Family Council, where she and the rest of the volunteer council worked tirelessly on enhancing the residents’ quality of care, with the support of the talented Family Council team and Villa Cathay management. She loved her time there and found it incredibly rewarding.
Francisca was a respected advocate, administrator and strategist. She could also be relied on to provide her prodigious skills in realizing progress with each of the challenging projects she undertook. She came to be widely respected and appreciated for her tireless work ethic and the wide range of her skills.
Francisca was a cherished friend, wife, and partner to Alec. She was also a talented artist and musician. She was loving and kind, compassionate, thoughtful, mischievous, fun and most certainly - unique.
There seemed to be nothing that she couldn’t do or master, once she set her mind to it.
An irreplaceable and beautiful person has left us much too soon to join her beloved father Francis in Heaven.
