Good thoughts and prayers to Ritsuko, Kai and Maya. Dan, Akane, Dom and Jessica

I'm an old friend of Murray's (LBHS, class of 74) who just learned the news of his passing tonight.  My sincere condolences to Ritsuko and the children.

With the same name, we often ended up together, but we had a lot in common.  A love of what was then new music (The Allman Brothers) and living a little outside the mainstream.

We went different paths, but with a common soul.  He will be missed.

Dear Ritzuko and family,

I am so deeply saddened by your loss.  

Today I attended the celebration of life for my very first employee-turned-friend at CBC...

Murray was a truly good friend. Who taught me life lessons, shared recipes and laughs. Someone who was creative, and one of the best in the business, without exaggeration. Someone I have missed every single day when he was away battling cancer, but even in his absence, left the lifelong lesson to live in the moment. Someone who exemplified what it was to be human.

His last words to me 15 or so months ago were: I'm sending you an email and I want to say I'm glad you're not my HR person on this one. I'm glad you're my friend. And if I don't get another chance before I see you next, remember to live in the moment. Take risks.

We never got a chance to talk again.

But I learned so much from him - a great life lesson. One I hope I'm brave and strong enough to embrace. To live each day beyond the fullest. To let everyone in your world know that they matter. To take risks. To do what you love, and do it well. To be with people who matter to you.

Thank you for sharing Murray with us for a little while today for one last time.  I hope you find strength in knowing how many people he touched.

My sincere condolences to Ritsuko, Murray's wife, and their two children, Kai and and Maya.  Murray was a very fine man, a fantastic colleague, and a great editor!  I shall miss Murray very much.
