

Norbert Buxbaum was born in Austria on June 6th, 1928 and died peacefully at the German Canadian Care Home on April 24th, 2017. His first wife Frieda, and his siblings predecease him. And he is survived by his wife Elisabeth; daughters Elfi, Jennifer (Thomas), and Michelle (Cameron); grandsons Cedric (Yael), Calvin, Sebastian, and Max; his great granddaughter Emma and his nieces and nephews. He came to Canada in 1952. Norbert owned and managed the Bavarian Room Restaurant from 1958 to 1995 and was the warm-hearted landlord of Frieda’s Villa Apartment from 1977 to 2015. Norbert was a valued and well-loved member of the Kitsilano community and spent his retired years helping people by donating his handyman skills, doing taxes, and preparing meals for anyone and everyone. He loved learning about people and their stories and will be truly missed by his family and those whose lives he touched. A funeral will be held at 11am on May 4th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (2465 Crown St, Vancouver). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society will be gratefully accepted at the service. The family would also like to thank the staff at the Crossreach Seniors Day Centre and the German Canadian Care Home for their kind care and support.
