Panagiota Georgas was born in Athens, Greece, on August 20, 1936. She was the youngest daughter of Yianni and Constandina, and the beloved sister of Fofo and Athina. With her passing, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
After completing her schooling, Panagiota worked as a secretary at a law firm. Through family and friends, she was introduced to Thanos, and the two became engaged in July 1956. Thanos immigrated to Lethbridge, Canada, in January 1957, later settling in Vancouver. Panagiota joined him in November 1958, and soon after, they were married. She began working for BC Fur Coats as they built their new life together.
Panagiota and Thanos started their family in 1959 with the birth of their first son, Peter, in November. Their second son, Constandinos, arrived in November 1960, followed by their youngest, Tom, in January 1969.
Panagiota built a life grounded in hard work, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family. While raising three boys, she also coordinated service calls for the family business, TG Gas. Her Greek heritage and the friendships she formed within the Greek community were central to her life. She was proud to be a member of the Daughters of Penelope, where she served as both treasurer and president.
A strong and resilient woman, Panagiota bravely beat cancer. She loved cooking family dinners and was known for being an exceptional cook. Even in her care home, she delighted in teaching nurses and caregivers how to prepare Greek dishes.
Panagiota is survived by her three children — Peter, Kosta, and Tom — their spouses Olga and Kathy, and her four grandchildren: Jacob, Bryson, Constantine, and Danika. Her legacy of love, strength, and generosity lives on through them.
