It is with a very heavy heart that we share the passing of our beloved Panagiotis “Peter” Kapeleris. Born in Aggelona, Greece, on December 26, 1949, to Christos and Eirini Kapeleris. Peter was the third of four siblings. He was a cherished little brother to Giannis and Kiriakos, and an overprotective, devoted brother to Angela.
Trained as a barber in Greece, Peter moved to Canada in 1974 to join his sister in Vancouver and build a better life. He was defined by his incredible work ethic, famously starting his Canadian journey in logging camps, where he fed workers by day and cut their hair by night. Peter’s talent and warmth eventually brought him to barbershops across the city, where he was always deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve his community. He became a staple of the Broadway scene alongside his dear friend Nick at Seville Unisex, before eventually opening his own beloved shop, Top Cuts, on West 10th Avenue.
To his clients, Peter was more than a barber; he was a confidant and a friend. His chair was his office where he made time to listen to the latest news and stories in your life. Peter was a true gentleman who took immense pride in his appearance; whether he was working or out for the evening, he was always dressed to impress.
In 1994, he met his sweetheart, Dimitra on the dance floor at a church fundraiser. The two hit it off immediately and became inseparable, sharing a bond built on hard work and mutual devotion. They made a great team and worked very well together expanding their ventures and opened two shops in White Rock.
Peter loved his family with his whole heart. He remained deeply connected to his siblings, cousins, and friends frequently calling them whether in Canada, the United States or in Greece to share stories and stay updated on their lives. He found his greatest joy in expressing his love with “I Love you” or spoiling his nephews, nieces, godchildren (Chris and Christophorus), step children Andy and Sophie, the grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Everyone who knew Peter was touched by his generosity and his kind, welcoming spirit.
In 2009, Peter suffered a stroke. While it slowed him down physically, it never dimmed his loving spirit or his genuine excitement when he would see you again. His later years were defined by the simple pleasures: sharing great food, enjoying the company of his beloved Dimitra, and remaining close to the family he adored.
Peter leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering devotion. He was a man who made everyone feel like family, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Remember by Christina Rosetti
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
