It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Paul Christoper Coi on January 7th, 2022.
Paul is survived by his loving son, Elio, his brother Peter (Lisa), his niece and nephew, various Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his brother Dennis and his parents, Marilyn and Pietro.
Paul was born in Vancouver (one of the few), on September 22, 1966, the youngest of 3 very active boys, in a busy, Italian household. Paul had a great sense of humor, a quick smile, "eyes the colour of Nova Scotia" (a quip from his maternal Nonno regarding his blue eyes), love of music, pretty decent drummer and a love of animals, especially his beautiful Shepherd, Bronco.
Each of the sons had a special interest in sports, Paul's being football. A gifted center and known to be a tough tackle, but a good sportsman. On one occasion, Paul noticed one of Vancouver's finest parked by his parents home and went over to the cruiser to inquire his purpose there and the officer recognized instantly Paul from high school and promptly asked him if he had gone on to the CFL or NFL because he was a "hell of a ball player." (you never know the impact you make on someone until they tell you),
Paul worked in the paving industry, for several companies in the lower mainland, for 30+ years and was a proud member of the Local 115, IOUE Construction Workers Union. He was one of most called upon and skilled rollermen and was always in high demand.
Paul met his former wife, Melanie in June 1991 and had a son Elio, in December 1992.
The young family lived in East Vancouver, close to Paul's parents as they were a integral part of their lives, especially during holidays and mooched Sunday dinners at Nonna and Nonnos. Paul was also very close to his niece and nephew, Jacklyn and Jeffrey. He enjoyed having them over as it would give their parents a break and provide all three children with precious cousin time.
Unfortunately, Paul also struggled with addiction.
A Zoom Memorial and cremation has already taken place. Paul's son, Elio will plan and announce a Celebration of Life in the summer.
In lieu of flowers, please support Harbour Light Detox and Addictions Recovery Center, Union Gospel Mission and The Salvation Army.Their work and compassion is immeasurable.
Rest Easy, Paul.
