We lost our dear Robin on September 9th, at the tender age of 61, in Vancouver. She shone brightly throughout her life with passion, curiosity, creativity, grace, and quiet defiance. A deeply spiritual woman, Robin studied esoterics and believed in faith, signs, and synchronicities. This deep sense of faith was central to who she was and guided everything she did.
For 33 years, Robin was a devoted and loving partner to her soulmate, Nolan, finding endless joy and fulfillment in their profound life changing and ever evolving relationship. From the moment they met until the very end, Robin and Nolan felt fatefully connected, and their decades of harmony stood as a beautiful testament to the divinity of their bond.
Robin dearly loved her sister, Britta and though they lived in different cities for years, distance never hindered their closeness. They shared a special bond, knowing each other as only sisters can, and remained deeply connected throughout their lives. Robin and Britta cherished every opportunity to travel together and gather with family.
Of Robin’s many superpowers, the most impactful was her ability to truly connect with people and build community wherever she went—talents she exercised beautifully both personally and professionally. In her personal life, Robin made friends effortlessly, transforming those connections into deep, lifelong friendships.
One of Robin’s greatest passions was community radio, a field to which she contributed for more than two decades. At CJSF and CKUW, she served as a broadcaster, programmer, trainer, and mentor, supporting countless volunteers in finding their own voices on the air. Robin shared her love of bluegrass music as the host of "Hit the Big Wide Strum" at CKUW in Winnipeg and "Roots and Berries" at CJSF in Vancouver, and later brought her feminist perspective and curiosity to on-air conversations with "IntraVenus" and "Triple Threat: Feminist, Fifty-ish & Fabulous." In 2025, Robin was rightfully honored as a Community Radio Legend.
Robin was proud to have earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Winnipeg and her graduate degree in Arts for Social Change from Simon Fraser University. Calling herself an “Imagination Doula,” she used her skills as a facilitator, alongside her passion for creativity and ritual, to create pathways to discovery, growth, and transformation for herself and others. In 2025 she contributed to the anthology, "The Awakened Feminine: Stories of Emergence, Power and Presence" and was proud that her chapter, "I Am Not It, and I Am All of It ", was chosen to be the first chapter. Her profound wisdom and desire for truth helped those around her navigate the joys, hardships, and transitions of life. She possessed a creative fearlessness, demonstrating her artistry through many pathways, including hat making, belly dancing, collaging, crafting, and exploring the art of clowning. Most importantly to Robin, she always encouraged others to find their own creative expression.
Robin leaves behind her soulmate, Nolan, her only and favorite sister, Britta, in Calgary; and a large network of dear family and friends across the country (including Calgary, Winnipeg, and Vancouver) and around the world. She will be deeply missed by every person who had the privilege of living, learning, and working alongside her.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robin’s honour to CJSF, CKUW, or Manitoba Association of Woman Artists.
