I fondly remember Mr. Sandhu as my Law 12 teacher back in 1989-90. He was a very funny and engaging prof. I remember him bringing up an instance of a hypothetical street fight between two east Indians with guns and then correcting himself. "No, I guess as Desis they would be using 2 by 4s," and continuing from there. He used the F-word and after the gasps subsided said, "Common! Calm down, you're all old enough to hear that now." He did give me 38/40 on the essay on Public Inquiries commenting that it was "well written...too well written," with 2 marks deducted because he claimed it must have been plagiarized. I tried to argue said that the burden of proof was on him to prove his claim. But he just laughed and patted me on the back and said "Common! and try not to 'copy' too much next time," and so forth. I still stand by my work and the criminality of not extending me the assumption of innocence. Anyway, the class was a lot of fun and he was a great guy!

I think Mr. Robinson substituted for some of it. We were supposed to get some extra marks for bringing in cans of food. I picked up a six pack of Coke for like $2.50 and thought I would get 6 extra marks but it wasn't included in the final tally. I remember becoming interested in the legal process and discussing the ValderZalm mess.

What sad news. I worked with Rob on the provincial Civilization 12 revision committee back in the early 1990's. One of the best committees ever! Rob was a wonderful leader of our group.  Lots of great insights, laughs and great dinners out... we always went over our expense allowance. We were odd for a group of teachers in that we were all willing to spend lots of money on good food. We thought it was our duty to sample the world's cuisines.  Rob will be much missed by all who knew him.

I had Mr Sandhu for social studies a number of years.   As a grade 8, I was always late to class and he would come up with very interesting and funny pranks for me every time I would enter the class.   It was fun and it kept me on my toes.   From one prankster to another, he was very creative.   I remember his energy and how engaged I was in his class.   Thank you for your enthusiasm and the fun you bring to your students!  You will be missed.

Condolences to the Sandhu family - so sorry for your loss. Though we didn't know Rob for long, we are grateful to Randi and Sarj for bringing us together. Unfortunately, we weren't able to spend as much time as we wanted to because of COVID, border closures, travel restrictions. The couple of times we got together it was like we had always been friends (I think more laughing than talking.) It was apparent that he was a teacher by the individual attention that he gave our granddaughter Brooklynne. He gave us one more good laugh when we were reading the very nice obituary that was written - never in conversation did it come up that he taught at "David Thompson" Secondary School! I had Mr Sandhu for social studies and Law 12. He was one of the best teachers I have had and I remember him for his personal encouragement, energy and interest in us students. I always wanted to go to his class. My condolences to his family.

There are very few teachers that made the impact that Mr. Sandhu did. He was my Socials Studies and Law teacher back in the 80’s at David Thompson. Now I wasn’t a great student and honestly didn’t enjoy school, but I never wanted to miss a single one of this amazing man’s classes. He was passionate, caring, kind, incredibly funny and overall brilliant. He was one-of-a-kind, an incredible human. Thank you for the wonderful lessons and memories, Mr. Sandhu. My sincerest and heartfelt condolences to friends, family and the scores of former students who will miss his beautiful, shining light. Rest In Peace.

I am very sad to hear this news. In the early 1980's, Mr. Sandhu was my teacher for Social Studies and Law 11 at David Thompson and 40 years later I can still clearly remember how passionate he was, how he cared about the students, and his creativity and sense of humour. He didn't just teach the material, he taught us how to be thoughtful, responsible citizens and to consider multiple viewpoints. He was one of the best teachers I ever had. Remembering a sunny afternoon celebrating Jas and Rob’s 50th Anniversary ❤️

I am so sorry to hear that Rob has passed away.  I remember his beautiful smile  as he watched his wife, Jaspal, accompany me as my matron of honour on my wedding day. He was a deep thinker who was passionate about teaching just as I was.   He gave so much of himself to others during his lifetime.  I remember colleagues back in the day remarking about his abilities and the wonderful work he did for his students and fellow teachers.

Certainly a sad day for whoever had the opportunity to cross paths with Mr. Sandhu. The irony is that I never had Mr. Sandhu as a teacher.  Always wanted to. Never had the chance.  My interaction with him was in the hallways and around his classroom as my locker was often within an earshot of his resounding voice. He clearly impacted not just his students, but everyone around him too. I have some fond memories of those interactions.  RIP 🙏🏼

My Condolences.  I had Him as a social studies teacher at David Thompson in the early 70’s.  There was never a better teacher in my years of schooling.  He had humour, compassion, kindness and lord knows he was patient.  Most would have quit with our bunch but he knew exactly how to get our attention.   RIP you will always be remembered.
